Watermark Certification Scheme

The ABCB (Australian Building Codes Board) administrates the WaterMark Certification Scheme, which is an approval scheme for Plumbing and Drainage products that was previously established in 2006 by SAI Global.
The Scheme was developed in an attempt to set minimum requirements to protect potable water and sanitary systems from contamination, and to ensure that drink water quality was not compromised by poorly manufactured components and fixtures.
The scheme itself has evolved and seen a number of changes over the last 5 years.
The current version of the scheme which was published in August 2017 now requires all appliances and components that are WaterMark Approved to be subject to a Factory Audit every 5 years, with the inclusion of an additional ‘monitory audit’ annually.

With regards to Commercial Catering Equipment, only several types of appliances have been included in the ‘Schedule of Products’ that require Watermark Certification. To date, there are still a large number of appliance types that fall outside the scope of the Watermark scheme, as they are also not listed on the ‘List of Products’ excluded from the Watermark Scheme.
NAFES member companies are currently working together with a Certifying Body, in an attempt to
develop a new Watermark Standard developed specially for all Commercial Catering Appliances.
Once the Standard has been completed, it will be submitted to the ABCB for review/approval.

WaterMark Product Database

All Watermark Approved Products are listed on the Watermark Product Database.
All Licences are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. Certificate holders can apply to renew their
Watermark licence, and are required to have the product retested, and an additional factory audit to be completed before the licence is renewed.
All expired licences are automatically removed from the database 3 months after expiry date.
