New drafts of both standards are currently available for Public Comment from Standards Australia and both have changes that will significantly affect our Commercial Catering Industry, from the manufacturers/importers to the installers and the end owners, so it is extremely important that our industry takes this opportunity to review these proposed requirements and promptly provide feedback and/or submit their comments to Standards Australia before the public comments closing dates, for further review by these standards committees.

 

Please ensure that you forward the invitation to your customers i.e. Kitchen Consultants, Design and Construction Dealers etc. as the proposed changes may have an impact on their business. 

 

Public Comment Closing Dates:

  1. AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas Installations – Part 1:General Installations – 10th June 2021
  2. AS 4563 Commercial Catering Gas Equipment– 20th July 2021

 

 

Summary of Proposed Changes:

DR/AS/NZS 5601.1 Gas Installations – Part 1:General Installations

  1. Prohibition on the use of semi-rigid connectors in the installation of commercial catering equipment.
  2. New requirements for commercial catering equipment.
  3. New requirements for freestanding commercial catering equipment with under-equipment connection.
  4. New requirement for commercial catering equipment installed in classrooms.
  5. New requirements for the connection of freestanding commercial catering equipment using a hose assembly.
  6. Higher requirements for thermal protection of combustible materials adjacent to commercial catering equipment.
  1. Clarified Clearances to Grease filters
  2. New requirement for commercial catering equipment in residential premises.

 

DR/AS 4563:2021 Commercial Catering Gas Equipment

  1. New requirement for Flame Failure on all burners
  2. New Temperature limit requirement for Zero rear clearance installations
  3. New Section and requirements for High Temperature Cookers (Chinese Pig & Duck Ovens)
  4. New Section and requirements for Mobile Serving Appliances (Yum Cha steam trolleys)
